It's a lazy afternoon and an unusual winter sun struggles to brighten a giant pink, plastic tarp in the form of a castle in the backyard of the Rios' family two store new house in San Isidro, one of the wealthier neighborhoods of the booming economy Peruvian capital. Half of the week is still ahead but Valentina turns 3 and according to her mother she is now a princess so she might dress and have a birthday party as such. Like most Peruvians moms and dads of ever increasing wealthy middle and upper classes, this is a great day to eat , chat and share a good time with friends while their children are comfortably overlooked by thoughtful "nanas", the native version of European "au-pairs". With such a attentive, docile and cheap supervision it's easier to spend a fairy tale afternoon with the kids, while they wish and sing Valentina "Japi Berdai tu yu...." in Lima, Thursday, June 3, 2010.
